The person raising hand emoji shows a person – usually depicted as a woman – usually with their right arm raised above their head as though to catch someone’s attention. The emoji’s face is usually either shown as friendly or passive and is therefore not really considered to be an emoji which is used maliciously. Even still, it is sometimes used ironically or sarcastically. The emoji’s primary function is to indicate that someone in a conversation has a question or wants themselves to be counted or acknowledged. It is also used as a “look at me!” or “I’m here!” emoji to bring back attention to the sender.
